Even with the new update, I just can't see why anyone would pay £100-£140 extra for an Apple TV over one of the many other Media Players on the market.
Granted, the Apple TV has a nice UI and is integrated with iTunes, but put against that is it's limited codec support and high price. Supposedly it's just a hobby for Apple, but I wish they would add some much needed functionality to it.
Is it just the main menu that's had the re-design again? WHY don't they keep all the menu's uniform and update the rest too? The main menu (from the look of screenshots I have seen) looks really nice now. But I will be very disappointed if they have kept everything else as it was, as it looks so basic and old now.
Has this sorted the bug, where you can only view up to 200 titles of movies when viewing by genre?
Apple need to drop the price of the downloads from iTunes to a more realistic level, considering you can walk into HMV or buy on line cheaper and rip to your Media Player of choice. I don't think people most will consider Apple TV as their choice destination for video until this happens, people will be content with ripping their libraries.
Probaly mostly because its pretty attractive, plus you can install XBMC or Boxee on it!
I agree tho, Apple really should have a re-think about the AppleTV since an Apple HTPC would be just the sort of game changer that the HTPC world needs!
Great update, a vast improvement on the old UI, IMHO. It does still have a long way to go, but for what I use it for (the odd tv/film purchase or rental, but predominantly playback of my iTunes library on the telly) it's a great bit of kit and I'm a big fan.
