Pardon me for not being a software engineer, but what use would they have for putting in code referring to a future hardware revision when it is more than likely that the software would be obsolete (or more likely, not even compatible) when the new device was actually released?
who knows the logic of Apple? Could be for ultra secret developer testing or simply viral advertising. Either way, Apple has a history of doing this and it turning out to be true. So I guess we wait and see...
Like Jai said the IPhone3G already does, are you meaning Turn by Turn navigation, well that's software and ages ago Tom Tom supposedly had a version running on the Iphone but not heard anything since. Although your not meant to, I just use Google Maps on the Iphone for car navigation, works fine.
I look forward to the day we get our hands on OLED-touting "iPhone X" handsets, a day when 3G speeds wouldn't become subject to endless lawsuits, and an inbuit camera to be proud of. I love my iPhone 3G, but that doesn't mean it's perfect. But being in the industry myself I know better than to expect each product revision to include all the latest and greatest features of it's time, that's the nature of the beast :)
