A year of use from a device that cost several hundred american pesos (actually is that unfair? Are most pesos now worth more than the silas greenback?)
Pretty sad really, same with phones.
Now how long did the old walkman tape players last?
Maybe not longer? Hmmm I seem to remember they did alright, even with some complex moving parts where its all electrical wizardry now.
So is it the build quality or just our consumption crazy society? Could we just stick in a new battery and keep going with the old gear, and just our greedy nature and susceptability to advertising nags us until we by the latest and greatest?
I know I struggle with that.
If only I was a buddhist.
If it wasn't for my inherited Scottish tightness I'd be ruined.
There we are, buddhism and Scottishness are this capitalism mad worlds only hope.
Id be interested to see what upgrades are done to the iPod Touch, I agree with Gordon that itll probably end up being a re-design to the plastic back like the iPhone 3G along with a price drop and possibly a larger capacity iPod coming out, however saying that im still hoping that Apple will do a much larger upgrade to the iPods following the news back in July that the 2.1 iPhone beta firmware mentions an iPod 2.1, which usually suggests a major upgrade (link below, as mentioned the iPhone 3G is only referenced as iPhone 1.2). Camera perhaps? GPS? Sim card slot for 3G HDSPA to turn the iPod into a turely portable tablet? Vey very unlikely I admit, but would be nice to see
A year.. first one was my fault, my 2nd gen mini fell into the broth (actually it was a bath, but broth sounds way cooler). Then i was curious what's inside, so i opened it.. and after a couple of months in the closet, amazingly it started working again. It still randomly resets from time to time, and screen is dead (my fault) but never the less it works as a pendrive.
Then i got myself a 2nd gen nano, and strangely after a year it bricked. I'm almost certain that it's faulty dock connector.
i dont think they should make the ipod touch a plastic back it would feel way too flimsy as it is slimmer than the iphone and we have all heard about the cracking in the iphone. as for the nano, who knows, guess we'll find out soon but i think a memory increase is an absolute must
As much as I don't want them too I think they will abandon the metal finish for an iPhone 3G-like backplate...
And I know this is way off, but I need to say it just for the unlikely kudos that would come IF this happened... but... we're not about to see an "iPod Rock" are we? Only thing that makes we think this is Apple's "Theres something in the Air" teasers before the MacBook Air launch event.
