Will be interesting to see if amazon undercut 7digital or not! I note that price in the US is $0.99 a song so even with the usual crappy conversion to uk that should be £0.79 a track in comparison to 7Digitals £0.99 a track..

They are really offering downloads as MP3s? A standard ratified in 1994? MP3s give you poor sound quality per bit rate when compared with modern lossy compression formats such as AAC, and people really need to stop using MP3s.

Until an online store offers lossless downloads I'll be sticking to CDs. Wait until a couple of months after launch and you're paying £5/6 a disc (on average) which is cheaper than MP3 downloads and much better quality than most.

@Stephen - it's because the MP3 format is known to the public and also cannot contain DRM. It makes a clear, simple and I'm 100% compatible with any device statement.

I just cannot see a time when I will download music anyway, mainly due to the fact, as Hugo stated earlier, that cds are just such good value now. I want to be able to do as I please with my music. Even if they offered lossless music for download there are still other issues to contend with. If I stored my entire music collection, let alone future purchases, on my laptop as lossless tracks, it amounts to well over 150GB. What's the point in having such good quality music through awful laptop speakers anyway. The cd gives me the opportunity to rip it twice, once in lower quality for my laptop and secondly in lossless format for my ipod with a good pair of shures, then delete the track once it's transferred. If I delete my music, lose my ipod, lose my laptop, i've always got the original cd and having the physical purchase in front of you with artwork, lyrics etc is always a more satisfying purchase anyway.
