@smc8788: This isn't a 16:10 monitor, it's 16:9. It should be fair to compare a 21 inch 16:9 with a 24 inch 16:10, particularly at the price point they're likely to ask for this monitor.
Well, £180 doesn't buy you much in the 24" world (well, anything actually, as the cheapest 24" monitors run over £200), so I don't think it's a fair comparison. A fair comparison would be to compare it with monitors of equal quality and size, not of equal resolution, but I guess we'll have to wait for the review to find that out. I realise it's a 16:9 monitor, which is why I would compare it with similar sub-24" monitors which have a higher vertical resolution and dot pitch than their 16:10 cousins, although the quality generally suffers as a result. As this is priced higher than many other rival 16:9 monitors I would hope that the quality would be improved, although being an Alienware I still have my doubts. So although I would pay the little bit more to get the extra 120 vertical pixels and 3 inches, many people don't want, need, have room for, or can't afford and equivalent 24" 16:10 monitor.
@smc8788: Acutally, a quick browse of Amazon or Dabs reveals a number of 24" monitors under £200 from the likes of BenQ, Iiyama, ViewSonic and Acer. I'll concede that there aren't many, and the few there are aren't likely to be as high quality as the Alienware, but this is getting away from my original point. I'll explain:
This monitor: 1900 x 1080
A typical 24 inch 16:10: 1900 x 1200
A typical 22 inch 16:10: 1680 x 1050
A typical 19 inch 16:10: 1440 x 900
It doesn't seem that anyone who moves from a similar 16:10 to this 16:9 is getting fewer horizontal pixels. Only in the case of the 24 inch would you be getting fewer (vertical) pixels, hence my original comment. I'm confused now...
@Chris: 16:10 monitors are 1920x1200, not 1900x1200.
This is just another cheap TN monitor, there's no shortage of 22" screens at 1920x1080 and the only thing this looks like it may offer is a decent stand with height adjustment and similar. Unless you're a fan of Alienware's design this is a rather dull announcement.
