Flash that sexy web candy that makes your laptops cpu, go like a saucy minx and drain your battery
IMHO any website which wants to use flash to make itself look sexy, should also release a non Flash html version of their website, so do but many dont, it should be compulsory!
When will Flash just roll over and die it's non-standard death.
The majority of what Flash is used for can be done with actual Web Standards now; between HTML 5, CSS3, and the latest advancements in JavaScript (with which I'm not so knowledgeable but I know what's possible) there is *no* need for Flash...
I have no doubt that there are potentially a few practical uses for Flash, but while it's around, people will continue to use it on their sites when all it does is make the site look a little fancier at the price of loosing usability.
@drdark - the only big boy (and he is admittedly a very big boy) is Adobe, at that's a company that is in serious need of an overhaul! Is software, as powerful and generally over-featured as it is, is bloated beyond comprehension and needs to started from scratch to be able to take advantage of todays computers. The base code of apps like Photoshop hasn't changed in generations, it just gets new bits bolted onto it with every release...
I'd actually like to hear that rant Dr. Dark. I mean I've never thought anything of it it's just a PDF app. Though admittedly, every single time I've been told to update it, it's been quite an irritatingly glitchy process.
For a start, it shouldn't need to take over 100 megs on my HDD. I know it's not much in this day and age, but it still seems much for what it does. Then there's the fact whenever I open a .pdf off a website, their "plugin" remains running long after I've closed the page, often taking up almost 35MB RAM according to Task Manager. And finally, it's just that it's always so slow and bloated and seems to take longer to load on my desktop than it does on my mobile phone!
