The benchmarks I've seen tend to show the 4850 competing with the 8800GT & 8800GTS in most games - if anything slightly behind them. The GTX 260 should easily out perform the 4850. It will be interesting to see what difference GDDR5 makes to the performance of the 4870 though.

It seems obvious to me that the STUPIDITY in nomenclature has undoubtedly lied in Nvidia's court for the past year or 2 or 3 or 4. Not to mention the naming of different cards/GPU's with the same numerical ID. What's up with that.
I agree that the comparison/competition was not intended for the Nvidia GeForce GTX 200 series. Although the performance charts indicate that they indeed do have and will likely(4870 & 4870X2) have similar performance to that series. The comparison was intended for cards at their respected price range whatever that may be.
