I bought DS Lite in the US after being impressed with my nephew's DS back in 2006, and I'm still enjoying it now. I really don't plan to go to the DSi as it isn't that much different.
@Darfuria: The reason the DSi will be so expensive (£150) is so it doesn't push the price of the DS Lite down as they are to be sold concurrently, the DSi isn't replacing the Lite.

the dsi, in my opinion, forces the price of the wii upwards - sans the projected price rise the wii would have just been £30 more expensive (£9 more, in sainsburys at the time).
that wouldn't strike anybody as good value for money
All I'll say on the subject of the DS is I bought one, played on it maybe a dozen times over a six month period then sold it. I know a great many people that have done the same with the Wii. In fact, the only thing that has kept my mates going back to the Wii has been Mario Kart - hardly a game that relies on the oh so revolutionary controller. Not that Nintendo will mind, of course.
