Zelda: A Link Between Worlds and Windwaker HD UK release dates confirmed

Nintendo has announced the UK release dates for The Legend of Zelda: A Link Between Worlds and The Legend of Zelda: The Wind Waker HD.

Confirming the European release dates during its latest Nintendo Direct announcement, both Zelda titles will be with us before Christmas.

The HD reboot of Gamecube title The Wind Waker will arrive on European shores on October 4, with Nintendo employing “shaders to improve visual expression and texture quality” on the Wii U.

“With these visuals Wind Waker looks as if it has been reborn,” explains Nintendo boss Satoru Iwata. “We think the integration of the Wii U GamePad makes it feel like something new. Also we have made some adjustments, such as fine-tuning the collectable challenges in the game.”

The Legend of Zelda: The Wind Waker HD will have 1080p graphics which Nintendo hopes will keep players immersed in the game.

The new Zelda game for Nintendo 3DS, The Legend of Zelda: A Link Between Worlds won’t arrive in European markets until November, although the release date window has been narrowed from “toward the end of this year”.

A sequel to the SNES classic, The Legend of Zelda: A Link to the Past, Nintendo says the storyline for A Link Between Worlds is hinted at by the game’s logo.

“Link will undergo a new adventure across two worlds,” said Iwata. “In one world, the iconic Triforce exists, while the shadowy Triforce in the logo suggests the existence of another Triforce in a different world from where Link lives.”

Nintendo is focusing on introducing new players to the Zelda series with the upcoming 3DS title, while still appeasing existing fans.

“Taking place long after the events of The Legend of Zelda: A Link to the Past, some of the game’s scenery will be familiar to fans of the series, while its puzzles and dungeons are new.”
