It's been said that sitting is the smoking of our generation – it's really bad for us, and it's taken us a long time to realise. You could buy a standing desk, or even a treadmill one, but you would stand out (pardon the pun).
The Zami Smart Stool, however, is less conspicuous. It's ergonomically designed to improve your posture and promote active sitting, strengthening your core into the bargain. It's also packed with sensors, and gives you feedback on your posture.
Sit on it, and your spine will curve the optimum amount – not too much so you're slouching, but not too far the other way so you're bolt upright. Enter your stats like weight, and the pressure sensors in each leg determine your weight distribution and work out your posture. It pings the info to the app on your phone via Bluetooth and tells you how to correct your posture.
You can also see how long you've spent sitting, exercises to improve your sitting habits, how you behave while you sit (whether you fidget etc) and how many calories you burn.
The app will tell you if you're not sitting correctly, if you sit for too long and aren't taking enough breaks. It will suggest exercises and general things to make your lifestyle healthier.
It's made of wood and leather and looks like it'd fit in in most homes and offices. Sounds like a great idea – no wonder it's sailed past its $30,000 funding goal in just three days.
