Subscription based TV service YouView has launched its first official companion application, with the new YouView App allowing users to record their favourite shows remotely.

Compatibe with all YouView packing set-top boxes, the new YouView App can be connected to five separate devices and is currently available as an iOS exclusive covering off Apple’s full collection of portable devices, from the iPhone 5 and iPad mini to 2012 iPod Touch. An Android enabled YouView App is set to follow.

“We are really excited about our new YouView App,” said YouView’s Chief Executive Officer, Richard Halton. “It gives customers a new way to find the content they love and the flexibility to record programmes on the go.”

He added: “This is just the first stage in our companion device strategy, offering even more value to UK consumers, and we plan to extend the functionality of this app as part of our on-going development of the YouView proposition.”

Having officially launched earlier this year, YouView enters the market as a direct Sky and Virgin Media rival with today’s YouView App launch seeing the fledgling TV provider emulate mobile features that have previously been made available for its high-profile rivals.

Combining catch-up and on demand content with standard broadcasting, the YouView EPG allows users to scroll backwards through the previous week, offering seven day catch-up content from the likes of BBC iPlayer, 4oD, ITV Player and Demand 5. Adding to the collection of 70 live digital channels, a library of on demand movies, TV programmes and radio options are also thrown into the mix.

Are you a current YouView TV user? Will you benefit from the new remote record enabling YouView App or do you see it as an unnecessary add-on? Let us know via the Trusted Reviews Twitter and Facebook feeds or through the comment boxes below.
