Want to see the players who will be diving left, right and centre in the Premiership in a couple of years? Then watch the 2011 Copa America on YouTube - for free.
The Copa America is the South American equivalent of the European Championships and comes around every four years. It pits 10 South American national teams as well as guest sides Mexico and the USA against each other over the course of 26 matches. With some of the world’s greatest footballing talents going to be on show it’s a tournament a lot of football fans will be interested in but not necessarily get to see on this side of the world. Until now that is, because on the Copa America channel at youtube.com/copaamerica, fans will have access to all 26 matches with exclusive-to-YouTube commentary, as well as “highlights from all the matches, goal compilations, full-game uploads and more.”
The competition begins on 1 July and will finish up on 24 July with the Copa America final. There is also some archive footage now available on the site from previous competitions including goals from the 2007 tournament. Broadcasting a whole international sporting competition is a serious undertaking by YouTube and another step to create original content for the web in a bid to make it a viable alternative to television networks.
