YouTube Gaming adds Android streaming

An update to YouTube Gaming has enabled the ability to live stream gameplay direct from a smartphone.

The Google-owned video giant launched YouTube Gaming towards the end of August, offering a Twitch rival dedicated to video game live streaming and related content.

While it was possible to live stream gameplay from a console or PC before, it’s now possible to do so from an Android phone. Cue 10 million Clash of Clans videos going up.

There’s no special equipment required (other than an Android phone, obviously). Just open the YouTube gaming app, tap Go Live, turn on your phone’s front-facing camera, and record your commentary using your phone’s mic.

Also new in the latest YouTube Gaming update is sponsorship, which enables video creators to secure funding from fans. This feature is actually only in beta with “a small group of creators” right now.

For a monthly fee, YouTube Gaming creators can receive extra perks, like a live chat badge and access to exclusive chat sessions.

There’s also a bunch of general improvements and fixes, as you’d expect with any software update. The latest version of YouTube Gaming is available to download now in the UK and US.
