Your Samsung Note 7 will alert you via a push notification if it is potentially dangerous, Samsung has announced.
Faulty Galaxy Note 7 handsets will repeatedly send push notifications to users if their handset is unsafe, warning that it should be replaced. Samsung announced that the notifications will come as part of a software update expected this week in the USA. The update will also cap the handset’s charge of 60%, to prevent risk of fire.

The push notification will tell users that their safety is Samsung’s highest priority and that they should ‘power down and stop using this phone’ as the battery may ‘overheat posing a fire or burn risk’.
What’s more, the update will display a green battery icon at the top of the screen if it has a stable battery unit. This is a move that will bring the handsets in line with the 500,000 replacement models that Samsung has shipped over the last couple of weeks to users who had dangerous devices.

In the USA, Verizon-branded models have received the upgrade while it’s expected to arrive on other carrier-exclusive models later today or sometime tomorrow.
The update follows a disastrous month for Samsung after over 70 of its newly released Note 7 devices caught fire while charging, prompting a global recall of the handsets.
Sales of the phone were immediately halted, wiping millions from Samsung’s market value and losing Samsung’s head start against its main competitor the iPhone 7.
