Your next Mac could pack Nvidia graphics – how about a GTX 1080?

Apple may be preparing to re-enlist Nvidia as a GPU partner for Mac computers, judging by job listings posted by the graphics specialist.

Nvidia is seeking a Metal and Open GL software engineer to work “in partnership with Apple” and “define and shape the future of OpenGL both for computer platforms as well as next generation consumer electronics devices.”

A second listing spotted by Arstechnica seeks candidates who can “define and shape the future of Metal and OpenCL on Mac OS X.”

Apple currently sources rival AMD Radeon GPUs with the last Nvidia component taking its place in 2013’s Darth Vader-looking Mac Pro.

As Ars points out, Nvidia currently supports Mac OS X through drivers, but the limited hackability of Macs hinders many efforts to bring the GPUs aboard.

A return could signal a greater commitment to gamers, while Oculus has been particularly cutting with remarks relating Rift support for Mac users.

Back in March, VR pioneer and closet Trump backer Palmer Luckey said: “That is up to Apple and if they ever release a good computer we will do it.”

With Apple reportedly plotting its own VR/AR solution, perhaps more graphically-able Macs could be on the agenda?
