Kanto Unreal 4

First GoldenEye and now the Pokemon Kanto region have been remade using Unreal Engine 4.

It's not the first time that game developers and dabblers have recreated the Kanto region from the original Pokemon Red, Pokemon Blue and Pokemon Yellow games (along with their remakes Pokemon Fire Red and Leaf Green).

The map is so familiar in terms of layout and popularity that it's certainly a popular choice.

But this might be the most impressive recreation yet.

Developer Preston Dunagan used the Unreal Engine 4 engine for his version, and includes all outside areas of the Kanto region apart from Viridian Forest and the Safari Zone.

He's been working on the project for just seven months as a one man operation, creating all models and materials himself. It's a seriously impressive achievement.

There's even lovely little details that Dunagen has included, such as a Mew on the truck around the 1.51 minute mark.

We'd certainly love to play Pokemon again if it looks like this in the future. However, we'll just have to satisfy ourselves with the fact aht Nintendo is re-releasing the original three Pokemon games – Red, Blue and Yellow – for 3DS next month.

They'll arrive just as they looked at release in the 1990s though, rather than this glorious Unreal Engine 4 iteration.
