Get OS X 10.11 El Capitan GM Candidate right now

Apple’s El Capitan operating system finally has a release date, but the software is still in beta for the moment.

Fortunately for testers, Apple has now issued the Golden Master Candidate – effectively, the final working release – to public beta testers and developers.

The software package, officially titled OS X 10.11 El Capitan GM Candidate, is the last build we’re expecting to see before the 30 September release date.

So how can you get your hands on the software?

If you’re currently testing the OS X El Capitan beta version, it’s wise to back up your Mac before installing.

Then, go to the “Purchased” tab in your Mac’s App Store, and click download next to the “OS X El Capitan GM Candidate”.

Hit “Continue” and the full installer will download. Once that’s done, the process automatically begins, and you’ll be guided by the installation wizard.

The GM Candidate build comes just over a week after Apple issued the previous version of El Capitan.

The company will ship the final general release version of the software at the end of September, landing as a free update for Mac users.

The new beta software version comes just after Apple’s annual September launch event, which took place yesterday at 18:00 London time.

Apple didn’t broach the subject of El Capitan at the event, unfortunately. However, it did wax lyrical on a number of new announcements, including the iPad Pro, the iPhone 6S and 6S Plus, and a revamped Apple TV.
