The YotaPhone 2 has been unveiled at MWC 2014 with a 5-inch AMOLED front display and 4.7-inch e-paper screen on the back.

One of the more unique smartphones to emerge at MWC this year, the YotaPhone 2’s star attraction is the always-on e-paper rear display that still allows you to experience more than 50 hours of battery life.

“The future of smartphones is always-on displays allowing users to stay connected without turning off the real world and disrupting the people around you,” said Vlad Martynov, CEO of Yota Devices. “The next generation YotaPhone takes this totally innovative concept in smartphones and makes it even better. Now, with two full touch displays, the next generation YotaPhone is twice as smart, twice as useful and twice as beautiful.”

YotaPhone 2 Features

The YotaPhone 2 features a 5-inch AMOLED display of unknown resolution on the front, which is complemented by a 4.7-inch e-paper display on the back that has a built-in light similar to the Amazon Kindle Paperwhite.

The front AMOLED display functions just as any other smartphone would, going into standby mode and offering coloured content.

However, the e-paper display provides smartphone notifications, lets you read newspapers and books and utilise social media apps without draining your phone’s battery life.

Due to the dual screens, the new YotaPhone is actually 74 per cent display, in comparison to the 30 – 40 per cent on other Android devices.

In order to save battery, the YotaPhone 2 has a Smart Power Mode that lets you use only the e-paper display for making calls and answering texts.

It runs on a quad-core Qualcomm Snapdragon processor and offers NFC connectivity as well.

YotaPhone 2 Release Date and Price

The YotaPhone 2 will be available in Q4 2014 with pricing to be announced nearer launch. Yota will be announcing an upgrade scheme for anyone with the original YotaPhone as well.
