When it comes to buying a games console, right now the waters are muddied. Gamers are faced with choices far more complicated than just PlayStation or Xbox.
Are the PS4 Pro and Xbox One S worth an upgrade? Will both be blown out of the water by Xbox Project Scorpio? Are any of them worthwhile without a 4K HDR television?
One of the key indicators in determining whether it’ll wise to hang on until 2017 for Xbox Project Scorpio is the as-yet-unknown price-tag.

With the specs pitched by Microsoft, will the price be PC gaming rig steep? Thankfully Xbox boss Phil Spencer has revealed it won’t be.
Speaking to NXGamer, Spencer denied the price would be ‘prohibitive’ and said it wouldn’t be ‘unlike any console price you’ve never seen’
“So you can see the price of the S today,” he said. “When we designed both of these, which we kind of designed it in parallel. We thought about the price performance of what we wanted to hit with the Scorpio, relative to what we were going to be able to do with the S. So that we would have a good price continuum, so people wouldn’t look at these two things as so disconnected because of the price delta.
“So I think you will feel like it’s a premium product, a premium console. And not something, anything more than that. So I wouldn’t get people worried that this thing is going to be unlike any console price you’ve ever seen. We didn’t design it that way.”
That price ceiling Spencer appears to be referring to is the $599 asking price Sony initially asked for the PS3 back in 2006.
So, to cut a long story short, we can expect Xbox Project Scorpio to be priced under $600.
Perhaps, given the comparison with the Xbox One S, we may be looking at a $450-$500 sweet spot?
