Xbox One update ensures you’ll spend more of Christmas playing games

Microsoft has released an update for Xbox One, which will improve download speeds by up to 80% for gamers with reliably fast broadband connections.

The new version of the Xbox One OS, released on Wednesday, brings the boost for those with available speeds upwards of 100Mbps.

Those with under 100Mbps connections should still see improvements of up to 40% on previous download times.

The result will be those fine folks receiving an Xbox One or an Xbox One S for Christmas will be able to spend more of the holiday playing games rather than waiting for them to download.

The mega download times for current-gen games has been a proved a major drag, with console owners often forced to spend hours waiting for titles and updates to download before playing.

This week’s update will put Xbox Live even farther ahead of the PlayStation Network when it comes to downloading games.

Meanwhile, as Polygon points out, PS4 owners continue to resort to drastic measures like putting the console into rest mode in order to speed up downloads.
