Xbox One sales topped 3 million by end of 2013 worldwide

Microsoft has announced Xbox One sales worldwide topped 3 million by the end of 2013.

Across the 13 initial Xbox One launch countries, sales of Microsoft’s next-generation console exceed 1 million in the first 24 hours alone, with 2 million reached within 18 days.

The Xbox One launched in Austraila, Austria, Brazil, Canada,  France, Germany, Ireland, Italy, Mexico, Spain, the UK, US and New Zealand on November 22.

“Over 3 million Xbox One consoles were sold to consumers in 13 countries before the end of 2013. It’s been incredible to see Xbox One selling at a record-setting pace for Xbox, and we were honoured to see Xbox One become the fastest-selling console in the U.S. during our launch month in November,” said Yusuf Medhi, Xbox’s Corporate Vice President of Marketing on Xbox Wire.

Before Christmas, the Xbox One was sold out at most major retailers, but stock started to come back in before Santa started coming down chimneys.

“Since our launch, demand for Xbox One has been strong, selling out throughout the holidays at most retailers worldwide. We are continuing to work hard to deliver additional consoles to retailers as fast as possible.”

We expect it won’t be long until Sony posts similar numbers. The PS4 sales topped 2.1 million units in just two weeks, with early sales totally eclipsing the Xbox One figures.

Tracking services also revealed that the PS4 became the UK’s fastest selling console of all time, selling an approximate 185,000 units in the opening weekend in the UK alone.
