The Xbox One S is a huge hit and the PS4 faces a fight once again

Microsoft appears to be clawing its way back into the console wars, judging by newly released sales estimates following the launch of the Xbox One S.

According to figures obtained by MCV, the week of the Xbox One S launch saw UK sales jump an astonishing 989 per cent compared to the previous week.

Further still, at the end of last week, the Xbox One had netted a 71% share of the overall console pie, which was up 76 per cent compared with the same week of 2015.

While a significant bump from the new console is to be expected, the new PS4 Slim has not had the same effect for Sony. MVC says the PS4 only had a 19 per cent share of the sales market last week.

Of course, while the Xbox One S has a power boost and an Ultra HD Blu-ray player to go with its sleeker design, the PS4 Slim has none of that.

There have also been a number of excellent Xbox One S deals out in the wild, while the same cannot be said for the unofficially-dubbed PS4 Slim.

Sony has a chance to turn the tables in November when the new £350 PS4 Pro launches alongside PlayStation VR.

However, the PS4 Pro has been criticized for its lack of 4K Blu-ray and a perceived power shortage when it comes to showcasing native 4K.

In response to the MVC report, Xbox UK said the One S has been “very well received” and claimed there is “no better value right now for those looking to upgrade their console.”

Do they have a point? Has Microsoft turned the tide in the console wars with the PS4 Pro facing a battle to compete with next year’s project Scorpio? Share your thoughts below.
