A leading retailer has suggested that the Xbox One release date will be held on November 29 and will precede the PS4 release date by two weeks, adding that the dates have come from suppliers.

Update: PS4 Release Date Confirmed: Console to hit UK November 29

Although Sony and Microsoft have to date remained relatively tight-lipped on the launch dates of their respective consoles, retail giant Toys R Us has claimed that the Xbox One will land before the PS4. Listing the Xbox One release date as November 29, the retailer has pegged the PS4 release date as December 13, less than two weeks before Christmas.

Update: Since we originally reported this story on Saturday, July 27, Toys R Us has claimed that the dates listed on its site are not simply place holders, but in fact confirmed launch windows handed down by the respective manufacturers. An official spokesperson for the retailer stated: “I can confirm this information has been given direct from our suppliers and is accurate.”

Although far from official, the claimed dates suggest not only how close to each other the two consoles will launch, but indeed that the more expensive Xbox One will get the jump on its high-profile rival. At present Microsoft has said the Xbox One will land in ‘November’ while Sony has tipped the PS4 arrival as during the ‘2013 holiday season’.

The November 29 Xbox One release date fits with claims that the console will hit the US in line with Black Friday, one of the State’s biggest annual shopping dates.

Where a number of retailers have listed their Xbox One pre-orders alongside a speculative placeholder date, Toys R Us sounds relatively confident in its Xbox One release date prediction. On its Xbox One page it simple says the console will “be released 29 November 2013.” PS4 pre-orders are also available.

With both consoles having been confirmed earlier this year prior to further details being announced at E3 2013 in Los Angeles last month, it is expected that the two manufacturers will again make major announcements in the coming weeks.

It has been suggested that the finalised PS4 release date will be confirmed during Sony’s Gamescom press conference. Microsoft is also tipped to further narrow down the Xbox One release date during the mid-August German held show.

Doubtful. The PS4 seems more like a safe bet date (being 2 weeks before christmas) and I think the One is more reasonable but I feel it will hit earlier than that. They are just placeholder dates. Nothing more

I agree, I'm thinking the Xbox One will launch close to the COD:Ghosts release date.

This isn't true. The PS4 will be out first for sure. Not that it matters. Who would waste $500 on that piece of crap Spybox? You have to be a moron to buy that thing.

it would be a horrible idea to release it towards the end of the month by then a lot of the games will be on sale I would think releasing it within the 2 weeks of November would be smart, sales wise who wants to wait for black Friday when you have the system and games ready to buy and play right away

That's pretty doubtful. My reasoning? FCC certification. The PS4 has it (and so does the dev kit) while the Xbox One does not (yet). That's a huge milestone, one that the PS3 hit two months prior to its launch. Two months from a week ago sets an early possible launch date for the PS4 as late October, early November.

Toys R Us, just like every retailer, is working off no more information than you or I.

You know that amazon is claiming the XBO release date of 11/27/13 is solid right? And that is what it was changed to after 12/31/13 which is a placeholder date, so don't be shocked since Amazon and Gamestop are both saying the XBO releases 11/27/13....

Well there have been several stories floating around about stores in Europe promoting the PS4 as 11/17/13. Amazon and gamestop both actually have the XBO dated for 11/27/13 changed from the original placeholder date of 12/31/13

I agree, I have been hearing nothing but 1st to second week of November rumors, this is the first December one I have heard.

I'm going to go out on a limb here and predict that not a single placeholder will be correct, just because that would be silly :)

I don't see the Xbone releasing before the PS4. General feeling is the PS4 will launch in early to mid November, plus Sony is far more ready than Microsoft is at this time. Sony has FCC certification done while Microsoft is still scrambling.

I bet it's launched the last week in October. It will be out long before the Xbone.

There won't be any sales on next Gen. games. You won't see any discount on Next Gen. Launch Games till some time next Summer.

I highly doubt these dates are accurate; they're to far into the holiday season. There's no way the PS4 launches 1.5 weeks before Xmas and the X1 a few days after black friday. To me, early to mid November seems like a more reasonable launch window.

Considering the fact that they got there information from toys r us, this article is stupid. if anybody has the release date right it is gonna be game stop and amazon. Both have it posted as a 11/27 release date. As for the consoles launching on Black Friday, to have any kind of Black Friday sale they would have to come out at least 2-3 weeks before Black Friday, and even saying this depends on whether or not they can get any shipments out before then.

Hopefully it won't be anything like the previous console launches, in which case the XBO will launch on 27th November 2013 and the PS4 will launch on December 13th... 2014!
I'm personally getting both consoles at some point, but I really still don't trust the Sony supply chain...

That's a lot of assumptions in your comment. Do you know how far MS is into FCC or any other part of the production pipeline, do you know for sure that Toys R Us knows the same as you or I ? (doubtful, they must know more purely by the fact that they will be big distributers and retailers of the product). I think the best reasoning would be "I don't know when they will be released but I look forward to both consoles coming out"

Sony is displaying new advertising with a solar eclipse which occurs on November 3rd in North America, so a NA release date of November 3rd is a possibility.

doubtful i don't see either console letting their release date slip past black friday

I think he means that the games will be out for the public to buy, IE. COD, AC4, BF4 ect ect. Who wants to wait ages to play these games on the next gen, my money is on the smart idea of releasing the xBox one as close to COD as they possibly can, due to the fact that was their main attraction at the original unveiling.
