Xbox One release date tipped as November 8

The Xbox One release date could beat the PS4 by a full week, with the Microsoft console hitting shelves on November 8.

Beating the PS4 release date of November 15 in the US, the Xbox One could be with us as early as November 8 if the latest information from American retail giant Walmart is correct.

The source, who works for marketing company that handsets product placement and signage for Walmart, released the midnight opening schedule for the American supermarket chain, which details the launch plans for the Xbox One.

Sent to Kotaku via email, the Upcoming Special Visits list includes big game launches like GTA 5, Batman: Arkham Origins, Battlefield 4 and Call of Duty: Ghosts. The PS4 release date is also there too.

However, unlike the game launch and PS4 dates, the Xbox One release date lacks the “confirmed” status. This suggests that Microsoft hasn’t quite pinned down the date yet, or it is a recent change from the Xbox One manufacturer.

A change in date could have come from the recent Sony press conference at Gamescom 2013. Sony has confirmed that the PS4 will hit the US on November 15, with a UK PS4 release date following on November 29.

Some have speculated that the two next-generation consoles could launch in the same week, or even on the same day.

It is useful to remember that even if this November 8 Xbox One release date is accurate, it may well still be another week or so until the new Microsoft console arrives in the UK.

Microsoft would do well to get the Xbox One console out before the PS4, especially as the American company has been subject to a fair amount of criticism of late.

It recently announced that the Xbox One release date would be delayed until 2014 in eight countries, although the UK would be unaffected and retain its original November launch window.

“Launch volumes are not really an issue. This was simply a software issue in terms of getting local language and voice support in the dash,” explained Albert Penello, Microsoft’s Director of Marketing. “It’s pretty straightforward, but disappointing I know for people who are missing launch.”
