Xbox One release date confirmed for 'later this year', answers gamers dreams

The Xbox One release date has been confirmed, with Microsoft’s newly unveiled next-generation console to hit retailers ‘later this year.’

Set to go head-to-head with the recently confirmed PS4, the new Xbox Infinity, formally teased as the Xbox 720, will touch down “later this year,” with a likely holiday season launch to see Microsoft attempt to capitalise on the lucrative pre-Christmas shopping period.

Speaking during the official XboxReveal event at Microsoft’s HQ in Redmond, Don Mattrick stated: “The Xbox One will be released around the world later this year.”

Teasing more details to come, he added: “This is just the beginning. We can’t wait to share the next chapter of our story in a couple of weeks at E3.”

Xbox One Features

A comprehensive entertainment device that offers all-round multimedia benefits, the Xbox One is set to build on strong gaming centric base with all manner of new additions.

Lining up alongside a revised new Kinect peripheral, the Xbox One is set to support a raft of motion and vocal commands, with users able to say “Xbox On” in order to power-up the device, with the next-generation console to automatically log users in to their specific accounts based on the voice recognition.

Powered by an eight-core processor and 8GB of RAM with a 500GB HDD, the Xbox One specs sheet is further enhanced via an integrated Blu-ray player. Built around 64bit PC architecture, the Xbox One will not be backwards compatible with Xbox 360 games, although it has avoided the always-on concerns of some gamers.

Partnering a remodelled controller with dynamic feedback triggers, the new Kinect hosting Xbox One features a selection of connectivity options, with 802.11n wireless lining up alongside HDMI in and out and a USB 3.0 port.
