The US arm of Amazon has already sold out of its Xbox One pre-order stock, some five months before the console is set to go on sale.
Suggesting that the next-gen console could be in hot demand and short supply when it hits retailers this November, Microsoft has revealed that Amazon, one of the key sellers of the console, has already sold out of its pre-order allocation.
Speaking with PocketLint, Lewis suggested that while currently restricted to the US, these pre-order limitations could soon be felt on a wider basis, including here in the UK. “We believe it is indicative of a pattern we are going to see for pre-order,” he said. “I think that is very true for the UK and markets where we’ve seen genuine success over a number of years.”
No longer allowing avid gamers to pre-order the ‘Day One’ Xbox One release, the Amazon US site is now offering a ‘Standard’ console pre-order which will see the Xbox One hit gamers’ doorsteps at an undisclosed period. Suggesting, however, that gamers will not be enjoying Xbox One action over the Christmas period, the retailer has suggested that this second batch will not begin to be available until after December 31.
Fortunately, for those still wanting to snap up the PS4 rival, Amazon UK has yet to report stock issues with its own Xbox One pre-order figures.
Earlier this week, Microsoft confirmed that the Xbox One price will see wannabe owners forced to splash out £429 in order to secure the console for themselves. Although cheaper than some had envisioned, this is still £80 more than the newly announced £349 PS4 price.
Speaking on its own pre-order figures and suggesting it will try to accommodate all interest at launch, Sony’s UK head of PlayStation, Fergal Gera, said: “We’ve been really pleased with the boost overnight of pre-order figures of the PS4 following our E3 press conference. We’ll do our best to have plenty of stock for gamers in the UK.”
