Xbox One pre-downloads coming later in 2014

Xbox One pre-download game support will arrive later this year, according to details outlined in the Microsoft GamesCom press conference.

Tipping it as one of the “most requested” features from the Xbox One community, Head of Xbox Phil Spencer said the ability to pre-download future titles is on its way.

The service will be offered on a game by game basis, similar to how it is with the PS4. For Xbox One, it’s starting with FIFA 15 and Forza Horizon 2 later this year.

Although no further games were confirmed, Spencer did tease that these two would not be the only to offer the service.

Pre-download work by letting you download a game onto your Xbox One ahead of its official release date. That way, you can start playing the second it comes out, rather than waiting for it to install on to your hard drive.

Such a feature was announced for the PS4 back in June, with a much longer list of titles available to pre-load on the hard drive.

Both Forza Horizon 2 and FIFA 15 are released at the end of September (26 and 30).
