Xbox One owners have been reassured over DRM rights by Microsoft, after an issue earlier this week.
Microsoft has calmed gamers by confirming that all Xbox One games are available to re-download and play, even if it has disappeared from the Xbox Live store.
The reaffirmations come following an issue earlier this week with the Xbox Live store. It left owners of the digital edition of Far Cry 4 unable to play the game.
Far Cry 4 also simultaneously disappeared from the Xbox Games Store, causing some gamers to worry Microsoft’s DRM policies were at fault.
“If customers own the rights to a game, they can visit their download history and initiate a re-download whenever they please”, said a Microsoft spokesperson to Eurogamer.
“Even if the game has been de-listed from Xbox Store and is no longer available for purchase.”
Both Microsoft and Far Cry 4 developer Ubisoft are keeping quiet as to what exactly went wrong with the game on Xbox Live.
However, it seems to be an isolated incident, because there haven’t been any other reported issues with other titles offered on a digital basis.
“On Monday, some users were unable to access their digitally purchased base edition of Far Cry 4,” one Microsoft spokesperson explained at the time.
“Our team has resolved the issue and all access to the title has been restored.”
It’s very rare that a game is de-listed from either the Xbox Live or PSN online stores. It only usually happens with smaller, download-only titles, or with titles where the publishers have lost the rights to a franchise.
