Xbox One November update adds custom backgrounds and Twitter support

Microsoft has rolled out its November Xbox One update, adding several keenly anticipated features.

The November update was detailed towards the end of October, but now it’s available to Xbox One users. As Major Nelson points out in his blog post, this will be the last update of the year.

Probably the most high profile addition here is custom backgrounds, something that’s been requested a lot in the year the Xbox One has been available. You can now choose a colour or achievement artwork as your custom background. These will then show up on any Xbox One you sign in on.

It’s also possible to use the Media Player app to pull any JPG or PNG film off a USB-attached drive or DLNA-connected home media server. Essentially, you can set any image you like as your new Xbox One background.

The second biggest addition here is Twitter support. It’s now possible to share video clips to the social network, though there’s no dedicated Twitter app with Snap support, which is a shame. Still, OneGuide will now show you the top 20 hottest shows (as per Twitter) in your area, which is quite neat.

Other, smaller additions include the restoration of location and bio info to your profile – something that went missing in the transition from Xbox 360 to Xbox One.

SmartGlass has also received an update, with an improved browsing experience and the ability to initiate Games With Gold game downloads from your phone.

These and many more smaller additions and tweaks should be available on your Xbox One console right now.
