Rare has confessed that it understands why core gamers are questioning the relevance of the Xbox One Kinect.

Microsoft made the decision to include the Kinect in the box with every Xbox One from launch, pushing the console’s original RRP to a lofty £429, and £80 dearer than its rival the PS4.

Rare, developer of upcoming Kinect Sports Rivals for the Xbox One, explained that the Kinect could be alienating core games.

“If you’re a pure gamer, if you’re only buying the console for video games and you only want to play games with the controller, I can understand why you may question [the Kinect’s] relevance, at least initially,” said Andy Dennis, Software Director at Rare speaking to TrustedReviews.

The Xbox One price has been officially slashed by Microsoft in the last month, with the price falling to £399.99 complete with a free copy of Titanfall.

Meanwhile, the PS4 has been consistently out of stock since it was launched in November.

Dennis stated that Kinect should be a puzzle piece in the larger picture of the Xbox One as an all-encompassing entertainment system rather than entirely gamer-centric like the PS4.

“If you look at the bigger picture, if you look at Xbox as an all-in-one offering for the living room, it has got to do triple A content, but it’s also got to be media player and offer games for a more casual audience as well. I think then the camera starts to make real sense.”

“If you look at the important of voice navigation as well as the skeleton tracking and the facial recognition that we’re doing, it absolutely makes sense to have it in the box.”

Update 11:15, 17/03/2014: The headline of this story has been changed for greater clarity.

That headline is quite a reach, if not even WRONG. Out of context and wrong quoted. Seriously, WTF?!

God, Do you guy's work for Sony? The title and the content are nothing like the same. I thought this site was called TRUSTED review. Not make up headline review. The things people will do to get more hits on their site. Shameless. Doing a great job of ruining the credibility of this site.

Maybe follow-up

The quote was: “If you’re a pure gamer, if you’re only buying the console for video games and you only want to play games with the controller, I can understand why you may question [the Kinect’s] relevance"

The headline is very relevant to the content and then the article goes on to explain what the Xbox One and Kinect offers over the PS4 outside of gaming.

Do you comment on anything that isn't Microsoft related defending Microsoft?

Noel Grundy

So he said he can see why someone else MAY question the Kinect's relevance. He didn't say he thought it was irrelevant.
Getting close to dumping this site. As there is so many news items like this purely designed to get hits. Shame as many of the gadgets I've bought where after decent reviews off this site. T.V.s, monitors, Headphones, etc. Now it's getting to the point I don't trust your points of view.

I love it personally, wish the PS4 had all the integrated search and command features.

I think the Kinect is the biggest waste of potential ever. Look at what was done with the wii controllers, or the ds, or even with tearaway on the vita. I think the Kinect2 is super impressive, and that if they could give incentives for using it creatively for third parties, or have their first parties focus on original visceral personal experiences, it would be a reason to buy an xbox one that no one could match. Instead, they just crank out generic bs that no one wants, like they think the problem is the number of games, and not the quality.

I love the Kinect. I look at it as another option for controlling your console.

There's no need to be so upset. You're full on-rustled because you disagree with someone? You 'Dont trust their points of view'?

A shame. Oh noes. This place will go down in flames without you~! A self-entitled random early-adopter guy! Whatever shall we do, he does not see what another person sees! Alert the internet :O!

Sony wants to win over gamers and Microsoft wants to win over gamers + everyone else. The earliest adopters will be gamers because that has been the focus of these systems since inception in the minds of consumers. With that said how do you change people's minds? Microsoft is certainly trying to do that. Do they have enough time before the consumer tells Microsoft - "Game Over!"?

It's not just me that has this point of view, and it's not a disagreement. The FACTS are the developer DID NOT say it was irrelevant. He said he could see why SOME hardcore gamers may think it's irrelevant. Which are two completely different statements. If you can't see that, then more fool you.
If you can't TRUST someone opinion to be unbiased, then their opinion becomes irrelevant. Maybe TRUSTED REVIEW should think about this before they dramatize their news items.

"Xbox One Kinect irrelevant to core gamers at present"

"He said he could see why SOME hardcore gamers may think it's irrelevant."

I don't see a difference here.

"Then more fool you" ? The only one dramatizing anything is yourself. I wouldn't be surprised if you had a closet full of tin-foil hats sir. I mistrust people who can't reach a rational or logical choice without exploding into an emotional hissy fit because I know full-well that Emotion counteracts Logic, Logic at its purest form needs to be hard, cold and concrete. Yours? Quite emotively-constructed and worthless.

Noel Grundy

March 15, 2014, 6:12 pm

Trying to work out where the hissy fit is? Far as I can see I'm just pointing out facts. Yet again You have taken it out of context. He hasn't said he think it's irrelevant. He's said that he can see that OTHERS think it's irrelevant. If you can't see the difference there is something wrong with you. As they are two completely different statements.

Let me put it another way. You find me a bit in the statement where it says HE thinks it's irrelevant.

Microsoft finally admits that Kinect isn't for core gamers? It only took 4 years...

Matthew Bryant

March 15, 2014, 6:59 pm

It's time to admit that the problem isn't wasted potential. Kinect just isn't a great device for controlling video games.

Matthew Bryant

March 15, 2014, 7:00 pm

Rare just said that the Kinect is for casual gamers. The title is pretty accurate.

Matthew Bryant

March 15, 2014, 7:02 pm

The fanboy rage is getting a little out of hand here.

Matthew Bryant

March 15, 2014, 7:02 pm

The opposite of relevance is...

Survey says?

Irrelevance.

If it's not relevant, it must be?

That's right. Irrelevant.

Matthew Bryant

March 15, 2014, 7:05 pm

I think your time might be better spent finding a relevant use for Kinect in core gaming. I'll be waiting...

Noel Grundy

March 15, 2014, 7:13 pm

It's nothing to do with being a fan boy. I currently own and use a PS3, Xbox 360, Wii, Xbox one and gaming P.C. The fact is he didn't has it was irrelevant. He said he could see why OTHERS think it.
If you said.
" I can see why some people think my wage is below average"
And a head line read.
" Matthew thinks his wage is below average"
Can you see the difference now? (Trust me I cleaned that statement up ;-) )
They are two completely different statements.

Noel Grundy

March 15, 2014, 8:52 pm

Where did they say that?.. Show me a link? anything?
I notice further down in the comments you say." Microsoft finally admit it isn't from core gamers." So now we have gone from Rare commenting on others maybe thinking it, To Rare stating it, Too Microsoft admitting it.
Dear me.

I have no problem 'admitting' anything about XboxOne or Microsoft. I think MS is a cancer on the gaming industry, and xbox one is pathetically underpowered.

but I honestly believe the kinect is a superpowerful and impressive piece of tech. If you search Kinect hacks on youtube, you'll see all types of amazing uses and toys created by university students. That was with the first kinect. the new one is much more powerful and has much greater potential

Jason Mounce

"“If you’re a pure gamer - I can understand why you may question [the Kinect’s] relevance."

Aka, he says he Understands why the current core/pure gamer thinks that Kinect is irrelevant for 'Us/them'.

"He hasn't said he think it's irrelevant."

The topic of the title doesn't focus on what HE feels personally about the Kinect. The title and quote references how he can understand how OTHERS view the Kinect as irrelevant, you're the only one twisting words here when you think the title: "Xbox One Kinect irrelevant to core gamers at present, says Kinect Sports developer" SOMEHOW means that He personally feels the Kinect is irrelevant.

You proclaiming that you're stating facts is hilarious. Is that the only way you can make yourself feel better? Appeasing yourself and telling yourself that you're stating facts? Fallacies everywhere and you're ignorant of your own ignorance and throwing a hissy fit. Just leave if you can't handle this subject.
