Xbox One executive Marc Whitten leaves to move to Sonos

Marc Whitten leaves Xbox after 14 year employment

Chief Product Officer of Xbox One Marc Whitten has announced he is leaving the company to take up a position at Sonos.

Whitten will become the Chief Product Officer at the wireless speaker company, after a lengthy 14 years working for Microsoft.

“I have had the extreme pleasure over the last 14 years to work on the greatest product with the greatest team and for the greatest community,” said Whitten. “Xbox is so special because of the amazing team I’ve had the opportunity to work with and because our fans are the most incredible fans on the planet.”

He maintained that he has the “utmost confidence” in the Xbox team and its products, as he has since he joined the team in 2000.

Over the course of his Microsoft employment, Whitten helped deliver three Xbox generations and the Xbox Live online community as well.

“It has been the highlight of my career to work on a product so loved. It’s incredibly tough to leave but I am confident the best days are ahead for Xbox fans, in the capable hands of a very talented team.”

Microsoft has confirmed that the rest of the Xbox leadership team will remain the same, but they will now report to Terry Myerson, executive VP of software and experiences for Xbox, Windows and Windows Phone.

"I've had the pleasure of working with Marc for more than a decade and he has always led Xbox forward with a focus on our fans and delivering a platform that developers and creators can embrace to deliver incredible entertainment,” said Phil Spencer, Corporate VP of Microsoft Studios. “We wish Marc well, while looking forward to the next chapter of Xbox."

The Xbox One was released in November 2013, with the latest sales figures standing at 285,000 in te US.
