Xbox One Destiny beta will not render at 1080p

Luke Johnson

Xbox One owners have been dealt another blow as developer Bungie confirms the upcoming Destiny beta will not render at 1080p on the Microsoft console.

As if it wasn’t bad enough being forced to wait a week longer than PS4 gamers to be offered an early look at the eagerly awaited first-person shooter, the Destiny beta will now not render at 1080p on the Xbox either.

With the Destiny beta set to launch for PS4 gamers this evening, July 17, Xbox One owners looking to get some game time with the Bungie title will have to wait until next Wednesday, July 23. The beta will then remain open for all gamers until July 27.

Speaking during an IGN live stream, Bungie’s Community Manager David Dague has confirmed that Destiny beta will only render at 1080p on the PS4.

Despite Xbox One owners missing out on a 1080p beta experience, Dague has reassured gamers that come the game’s full release later this year, the Xbox One will render Destiny in 1080p at 30 frames-per-second.

The Destiny beta will allow registered gamers to invite two friends so they can enjoy not only elements of the single-player campaign mode, but the game’s co-op credentials too.

A final Destiny release date has been confirmed for September 9. The game will launch for Xbox One and PS4, as well as PC, PS3 and Xbox 360.

Sony has already confirmed that PS4 gamers will be offered exclusive content, with a new, white PS4 to be launched to celebrate the game’s release.

Another blow ? From what i hear it will be 900p 60fps and will look the same and play better than 1080p 30 fps. Based on fan feedback it may release that way...which will result in the game being better on xbox one...like they all are. Game looks only fair anyway....so not even sure if i am going to get it with the coming forza horizon 2, sunset overdrive, project spark and halo at 1080p 60fps !

Getting sick of these slanted Sony PS4 articles. Been hearing them for over a year. No one ever talks about how sucky the Playstation Network is. When the Destiny beta was released it was unplayable by 50% of PS4 owners for more than 10 hours. Who cares if the game is 1080p and Xbox is 900p. The visual difference is so minuscule that unless you have a $3500 HD set you won't ever see the difference. The frame rates and connection speeds however make or break the experience. Xbox by far blows Sony away in those areas. The whole live experience is better by a lot. Sony fan boys act like because the Xbox can do many other things the PS4 can't that it somehow fails for gaming. The opposite it true. Xbox gaming experience is superior when playing anything online. Sony makes such a big deal about how the GAME is the most important thing and not the connection. Well sorry to break it to you Sony but in another 5 years no one will want to play a game that cannot connect to a network. This is why Sony is going out of business and Microsoft is the richest company in the world. Sorry for the reality check Sony fan boys.

I HAVE a $3500 HD set. It only took me a couple hours to start the Destiny Beta download, which I did through the Sony store while not at home, and it was ready to go by the time I was home and I have not seen any frame rate issues in any game on the PS4. I find it funny when a fan boy of a competing product calls everybody else a fan boy, though. People also forget that Xbox 360 fan boys talked crap about the PS3 because it did so many more things than the 360 that weren't gaming related.

Also, my PC is still better than both console :P

Although we disagree on the PS vs. XBOX deal. I will agree on the PC comment. PC is way better than both. And don't get me wrong, I think PS4 is awesome. I just think they dropped the ball by not investing heavily in their online network. I'm tired of hearing how PS4 is superior because of the hardware but never any mention of the other 5 areas that XBOX ONE eats their lunch.

I only ever hear about the fantasy football and kinect features of the Xbox One, neither of which I care about. I mostly have consoles for exclusives and JRPGs. I do most of my online gaming on my PC, since most of my friends do too, so PSN network issues never really affect me, but I've rarely had issues even when I do play online.

I built custom HTPCs for my TVs that I uses for all of my media streaming and web browsing, and they work as Steam streaming clients, so I can play any of my PC games on them too.
