Microsoft is warning gamers that their Xbox One consoles cannot be made backwards compatible after a number of owners saw their devices bricked by a scam.
Despite a six step method that promises to turn your Xbox One console into dev kit mode allowing it to play Xbox 360 titles has been published online, the process is a scam and is reportedly resulting in bricked consoles no longer able to play Xbox One titles either.

Hyrb, also widely known by his gamer tag Major Nelson, made the comments after the console destroying backwards compatibility promising processor claimed its first victims.

The six step ploy asked gamers to change the console’s sandbox ID and reset the device. The result has seen a number of Xbox One consoles stuck in an endless loop of reboots.
The Xbox One launched in the UK last month, with the Xbox 360 follow-on already struggling to keep up with strong sales of the rival PS4.
While the PS4 recorded more than 2.1 million unit sales during its opening two weeks on global sale, the Xbox One has achieved a less headline grabbing start to life. IN the UK, opening week sales of the two consoles are said to have seen the PS4 notch up sales 66 per cent higher than the rival Xbox One.
Where the Xbox One price has been set at £429, the PS4 price is a full £80 cheaper, setting wannabe owners back just £349, although admittedly without a bundled camera.
