Xbox One and PS4 pre-orders “twice the size” of previous consoles, says Ubisoft CEO

Xbox One and PS4 pre-orders are currently “twice the size of last generation” console figures, according to the Ubisoft CEO.

Yves Guillemot, CEO of Ubisoft, predicts that early adoption of the next-generation consoles will be very positive, especially when looking at the pre-order figures for the Xbox One and PS4.

In comparison to the Xbox 360 and PS3, the next-generation console pre-order figures are double which sounds promising for a good installed user base come launch.

“Some retailers, but not all of them, are saying pre-orders two times than what they saw in the last generation launch,” said Guillemot. “They’re getting more pre-orders than what they saw before.”

Speaking during the Ubisoft earnings call, a Ubisoft representative further clarified on the topic, adding that the first Christmas install base “will be double” that of the last generation equivalents.

Microsoft has also confirmed that the Xbox One pre-orders are ahead of the figures achieved by the Xbox 360 when it was in the same pre-release stages.

“Xbox One, which will launch this fall, has already seen impressive pre-order sales as consumers have signed up to be the first to receive the new system,” said Microsoft in a US June sales update. “In fact, Xbox One pre-orders are trending ahead of Xbox 360 pre-orders during the same time period and have already sold out at most major US retailers.”

Earlier this month, the American arm of Amazon announced it had sold out of both the Xbox One and PS4 Day One Editions, meaning anyone wishing to get their next-gen consoles on launch day from the retailer will be out of luck.

As for the next-generation Ubisoft titles like Assassin’s Creed 4 and Watch Dogs, Guillemot says “pre-orders are going really well” and are “in [the] top five for most pre-ordered games.”
