Xbox 720 will be a ‘very hot, compelling device’ says retailer

With the PS4 having already entered the realms of reality, leading retailer GameStop has suggested that Microsoft’s next-generation Xbox 720 will be a “very hot, compelling device.”

Although Microsoft has yet to formally unveil the eagerly awaited Xbox 720, it has been reported that GameStop has been working closely with the manufacturer, a potential partnership that has caused GameStop CEO J. Paul Raines to already sing the praises of the upcoming gamer.

“We’ve been spending a lot of time with Microsoft, but we have to let them take the lead on this,” Raines said speaking with GamesIndustry during a recent earnings call. He added: “It will be a very hot, compelling device.”

With Microsoft expected to formally unveil its next-generation, PS4 and Nintendo Wii U rival in the weeks leading up to E3 2013, Raines has further teased the console’s potential, suggesting it could change the world of gaming.

“They are doing some really cool stuff, and I’m eager to hear them start their announcements because I think the world is going to stand up and take notice,” he said.

“There’s a lot of demand for PS4, and I think there will be for the next Xbox as well, once it’s announced.”

Batting off claims that next-generation consoles will fall short of expectations, an issue that has resulted in ailing Nintendo Wii U sales, Raines suggested that with GameStop having already received close to a million people register interest in the PS4, such claims couldn’t be further from the truth.

“We certainly don’t believe that the new consoles won’t be as exciting,” the retail head said. He added:  “I was talking to one of our founders, Dan DeMatteo, and he was telling me every console cycle you get people who will say ‘there will never be another console,’ or ‘what else can the consoles do?’ And we just believe it’s a cycle and we just haven’t had a new product in so long.
