Xbox 720 to outsell PS4 says analyst

The much-rumoured Xbox 720 or codename Xbox Durango, could outsell the recently announced PS4 when it is released, according to industry analyst Michael Pachter.

Gaming analyst for Wedbush Equity, Pachter anticipated that the next Microsoft console would be the highest selling console over the PS4 and the new Nintendo Wii U.

The Xbox 720 could take the biggest percentage of the market share, with Pachter predicting the Microsoft console could sell around 90-95 million units, with the PS4 just failing to reach such lofty sales figures, coming in with around 85-95 million unit sales.

Speaking at the SXSW technology conference, Pachter deemed the struggling Nintendo Wii U “essentially a DS split into two parts”, “not innovative enough” to rival the next-generation consoles from Microsoft and Sony, but still having the potential to offer new, more interesting games that could spur on a sales growth for the console.

He also said the Xbox 720’s rumoured Skype integration along with a TV tuner and Kinect 2 bundle would be “killer apps” for the next-gen console, but would still compete with the Sony PS4’s Gaikai game streaming service.

Xbox 720 Features

Current rumours suggest the Xbox 720 could feature the same eight-core processor with 8GB of RAM as the recently unveiled PS4, but Microsoft has kept its cards close to its chest about the Xbox 720, even declining to confirm whether the next-gen console is even in production.

However, despite this, online rumours are still raging and are saying the Xbox 720 will feature an upgraded Kinext 2 motion gaming peripheral alongside two separate CPUs – one for dedicated gaming processing, while the other will deal with the Xbox 720’s multimedia offerings.

The Xbox 720 could also feature the long-rumoured Xbox TV service, as well as 3D technology.

There is a potential Xbox 720 launch date set for April 26, but again, nothing has been confirmed by Microsoft.

Are you impressed by the PS4’s specs? Do you think Microsoft has been wise to wait until after the PS4 launch to reveal their Xbox 720? Give us your thoughts on the matter via the TrustedReviews Facebook and Twitter pages or the comment boxes below.
