New Xbox 720 rumours have suggested that Xbox Live will become and “integral” rather than “optional” service on the next-gen console, with all Xbox 720 games set to “requite an internet connection.”
Adding to a flurry of recent Xbox 720 rumours ahead of the eagerly awaited Xbox 720 release date, latest reports have suggested that whilst titles will still come on a physical disc, all Xbox 720 games will require an internet connection to fully function, with Microsoft using the online access to register games and remove resale possibilities.
Citing “sources with first-hand experience of Microsoft’s next generation console,” gaming magazine Edge has reported that all Xbox 720 game “will require an internet connection in order to function, ruling out a second-hand market for the platform.”
Suggesting that “A new iteration of Xbox Live will be an integral part of Microsoft’s next console,” the latest reports added: “Although the next Xbox will be absolutely committed to online functionality, games will still be made available to purchase in physical form.”
Rubbishing claims that Microsoft will move to a wholly digital platform for its next-gen gamer, Edge has added that “next Xbox games will be manufactured on 50GB-capacity Blu-ray discs,” with Microsoft ensuring “games purchased on disc will ship with activation codes, and will have no value beyond the initial user.”

Long the thing of rumour and speculation, the Xbox 720 is widely expected to be officially unveiled later this year, with an Xbox 720 release date tipped to see the console touch down ahead of the pre-Christmas rush as a direct Sony PS4 rival.
With Xbox 720 specs tipped to see the device sport everything from an eight-core processor to 8GB of RAM, recent Xbox 720 rumours have suggested that Microsoft’s next-gen console will be underpowered when compared with its Sony branded rival. A rumoured Xbox 720 price has claimed the console will set wannabe owner’s back $400.
Whilst news on upcoming Xbox 720 games has been hard to come by, a selection of PS4 games recently leaked with the likes of Rockstar’s eagerly awaited GTA 5 release tipped to be heading to next-gen consoles later this year. Although titles have yet to be announced, Microsoft recently inadventantly teased a selection of upcoming Xbox 720 games, with the LinkedIn profile of Microsoft Studios Senior Product Manager and Planner, Jonathan Browne, revealing that four new Xbox IPs have recently been taken “from the very early concept phase through green light to production.”
