With gamers already looking forward to the Xbox 720 (or whatever the next generation console from Microsoft will be called) it is amazing to see that the Xbox 360 is proving to have such longevity, over six years after it was launched.
Launched back in May 2005, the Xbox 360 is showing that its is more long distance runner than sprinter having sold almost 1 million units in the US only in a single week thanks to the Black Friday sale which now traditionally follows Thanksgiving.
Not only has the console itself proven to continue to be popular, the Kinect motion controller is also proving to be a popular gift this year selling 750,000 units in the same week, either individually or as part of a bundle with the Xbox.
“Entering the seventh year of its lifecycle, Xbox 360 just closed the biggest sales week in the history of the hit digital entertainment system, selling more than 960,000 consoles in the US during the week of Black Friday,” Microsoft said on its blog.
With a line up of high-profile games being launched in the last few months, it’s no wonder that the Xbox is proving so popular and it begs the question why Microsoft would be in any rush to announce a follow-up if this console continues to be so popular.
