World’s first Bluetooth padlock can be unlocked by your phone

If you’ve ever lost the keys to your padlock, this will be a godsend. It’s called the Noke (pronounced “no key”), and is a padlock that you unlock with your phone.

The Noke connects to your mobile via Bluetooth, so you don’t even need to take your phone out of your pocket. When you click the Noke, it looks for a phone with a compatible key, and unlocks itself. No fumbling for keys, no entering cumbersome key codes.

But what if your phone runs out of battery, or you leave it at home? Don’t worry, you can still unlock the Noke.

Its Quick Click technology lets you enter a series of clicks – some short, some long – to unlock it manually (think a padlock Morse code). So you’ll never be stranded again.

You can share your key with people using the Android or iOS app, too. Just add them as you would to a Facebook group, and they’ll be able to unlock the Noke with one click, just as you can. There are no keys to lose, no codes to forget.

It’s water resistant, and takes a standard watch battery which lasts more than a year. When that’s run out of juice, you can replace it yourself without any tools.

The campaign has just gone live on Kickstarter, and has already raised $11,000 (£6575) of its $100,000 (£60,000) target. You can back it for as little as $1. The Noke should go on sale in February next year.

It’s made by Fuz Designs. The company’s previous project, the EverDock, raised a phenomenal $452,457 off a $50,000 target.
