Greater China recently became Apple’s second biggest market, so it’s hardly surprising to learn the firm takes the Asian population’s design preferences pretty seriously when deciding on colour schemes.
Cook made the revelation in an interview with the Chinese language version of Bloomberg Businessweek.
The region, which includes China, Hong Kong and Taiwan, recently overtook Europe in terms of sales and now only trails Apple’s United States homeland.
During the last quarter Apple sold more iPhones in Greater China than it did in the United States and it seems inevitable the area will soon become Apple’s most important market. Cupertino is seeking to boost the number of retail outlets from 15 to 40 within the next couple of years.
The first modern Apple device with a gold hue arrived with 2013’s iPhone 5S, which came in gold and white. The company continued the trend with this year’s iPhone 6 and iPhone 6 Plus, while the iPad Air and iPad mini range now boasts gold options too.
Of course, the Apple Watch has a well-publicised 18-karat gold Edition, while Apple also opted to launch the new 12-inch MacBook with Retina Display in gold too.
