Are you due a free iPhone 6S battery replacement? Here’s how to tell

Last month Apple announced a battery replacement program for iPhone 6s users suffering from an issue that caused the device to randomly shut down.

Now the company has launched a tool (via MacRumors) that enables device owners to discern whether they’re eligible for the free switch.

According to Apple the problem only affects devices manufactured within a two month window between September and October last year.

The tool enables users to enter their serial number to determine availability.

In a post on Apple’s support site, the firm wrote: “Apple has determined that a very small number of iPhone 6s devices may unexpectedly shut down. This is not a safety issue and only affects devices within a limited serial number range that were manufactured between September and October 2015.

“If you have experienced this issue, please visit an Apple Retail Store or an Apple Authorized Service Provider and have your device’s serial number checked to confirm eligibility for a battery replacement, free of charge.”

The program is the second of its kind launched in recent weeks.

The firm is also replacing the displays of iPhone 6 Plus owners who’re experiencing the so-called “Touch Disease.”

This issue causes iPhones to gradually lose touch sensitivity and, in some cases, experience a flickering display.

However, while the battery replacement program is free, Apple is charging $149 for the Touch Disease program, after claiming the issue has been caused by users repeatedly dropping the device.
