Wireless fast-charging promises 60% battery in half an hour
Wireless charging is the easiest way to power up your device, but it’s still plagued by one major problem – it’s very, very slow.
Fortunately, the Wireless Power Consortium (WPC), the group behind the prolific Qi wireless charging standard, has developed a way to speed it up.
In fact, the WPC claims its latest Qi version can match wired connections in terms of charging speeds.
According to the group, the new 15W fast-charging Qi can power a device up to 60 per cent charge in just 30 minutes.
“With a deployed base of well of 50 million units, hundreds of registered products and users all around the world, we understand the importance of a specification that supports innovation,” said Menno Treffers, the WPC’s chairman.
He continued: “

The WPC says the new standard is backwards compatible with older smartphones, so you don’t need to rush out for a new handset to enjoy nippy charging. Any Qi-friendly device will do.
The group also confirmed that the latest Qi version will only be available to WPC members. Fortunately, that includes big names like Samsung, LG, Microsoft, Motorola, LG, and HTC.
It’s set to become available publicly at some point next year.
