Windows 8.1 Update 1 tipped for April 8 release

Microsoft has reportedly delayed the release of the Windows 8.1 Update 1, with the software patch now expected to be released on April 8.

Having previously been scheduled for a March 11 rollout, the Windows 8.1 Update 1 is said to have been pushed back almost a month, although exact reasons for the short term postponement have yet to be explained.

Citing two unnamed sources within Microsoft, the latest reports out of ZDNet have claimed that Microsoft’s upcoming software update will now be released in the days following Microsoft’s San Francisco-based developers’ conference, Microsoft Build.

Microsoft has yet to formalise the new Windows 8.1 Update 1 release date, and as such these reports should be taken lightly until confirmed.

Set to bring a range of new features and bug fixes to the desktop and tablet OS, it is expected that the Windows 8.1 Update 1 will see Microsoft make the platform more easily accessible and navigable for consumers making use of more traditional mouse-based input options.

According to the latest reports, Microsoft’s targeted March Windows 8.1 Update 1 was always seen as ‘fairy ambitious’ by the software giant.

Earlier this week Microsoft announced that Satya Nadallia will replace Steve Ballmer as the company’s CEO.
