Microsoft has released the first update for the Windows 10 Technical Preview launched at the beginning of October.
The new build (identified as Build 9860) features over 7,000 changes and fixes and is available for members of the Windows Insider Program now and will arrive automatically via Windows Update.
In terms of new features, the update brings a notifications centre into play, which goes under the name Action Centre, a familiar feature for Windows Phone users.
A second new feature makes it easier for Windows 10 users to move apps between secondary monitors. A keyboard shortcut (Win Shift Arrow) moves the active app to the next display. Finally, the firm has added an animation for users who’re switching between desktops.
It’s not all progress with the new built. Microsoft says it has moved the UI design “backwards” for a while, while it works on fine tuning the experiences for the final version. In this case, Microsoft has made it a little harder to join a Wi-Fi network than before, but says it’ll be fixed at a later date.
Gave Aul of Microsoft’s Operating Systems Group says: “This is the first update build to Windows 10 Technical Preview, and we’ll continue to deliver more as part of the Windows Insider Program. Sometimes they’ll be more frequent and sometimes there will be longer gaps, but they will always be chock full of changes and improvements, as well as some bugs and things that are not quite done.”
“As we’ve said, we’re sharing stuff early and moving quickly to do so. In fact, the build that we’re rolling out today is something that we ourselves only got a little over a week ago! I hope that you’re as excited about seeing these early builds as we are to share them with you and hear your feedback.”
