Windows 10 screenshot leaks show updated UI and Live Tiles

Microsoft’s Windows 10 is still three months away, but leaks of the final software version are already trickling out.

A few screenshots have hit the web courtesy of Chinese site IT Home (1,2,3), teasing what we can expect from the new operating system.

The first thing to notice is that the Start Menu now carries a blurry, transparent background.

Some of you may remember that design quirk from Windows Vista and 7 – it was dubbed ‘Aero Glass’.

This transparency effect seems to only appear on the Start Menu, and it disappears when the user switches to a full-screen menu.

A few other design niggles were outed, including 3D Live Tile flipping, more conspicuous Cortana integration, and a hamburger-style menu for accessing settings.

None of these changes are huge departures from what we’ve seen already, but it does show that Microsoft is still hard at work on developing the operating system.

Earlier this month we learned that the Windows 10 release date was set for late July, although it’s not clear exactly when.

Microsoft’s annual Build developer conference is scheduled for tomorrow, so it’s likely we’ll learn more about the release date and the OS in general then.

We’ll be reporting on any news that comes out of the Build conference, which is due to kick off at around 4pm (BST) tomorrow.
