Windows 10 release date confirmed, and it’s free

The Windows 10 release date has finally been confirmed, with the eagerly awaited OS to begin rolling out globally on July 29.

Having long been the subject of much rumour and speculation, the Windows 10 release date has now been officially outline by Microsoft, and the software is coming free.

Windows 10, which will look to unify Microsoft’s strategy across, PC, tablet and mobile devices, will be introduced across 190 markets on day one, including here in the UK.

Set to be available as a free upgrade to all PC users currently running Windows 7 or Windows 8.1, the new OS will be introduced for mobile devices later in the year.

Today, Microsoft announced that Windows 10 will be available beginning July 29 in 190 markets globally as a free upgrade to customers running Windows 7 and Windows 8.1,” an official spokesperson confirmed.

They added: “Built with help from more than four million people around the world, Windows 10 marks the start of a new era of personal technology, designed to empower people to do great things.”

Outlining the upgrade process, the Redmond-based manufacturer added: “Consumers will have one year from July 29 to take advantage of the free upgrade.

“Once a Windows device is upgraded to Windows 10, Microsoft will continue to keep it current for the supported lifetime of the device—at no cost.

“Those who want to be among the first in line for the free Windows 10 upgrade can reserve a free copy in the coming weeks.”
