Windows 10 Anniversary Edition release date confirmed

Microsoft has announced and then promptly unannounced the release date for the Windows 10 Anniversary Update.

Earlier on Tuesday, Redmond published a blog post exclaiming: “Microsoft announces Windows 10 Anniversary Update available Aug. 2.”

However, moments later the story was pulled and now only available through the internet archives.

While it’s possible the company got the date wrong, it’s far more likely the story was just published early by accident.

The Windows 10 Anniversary Update was revealed at the Build conference back in March and will bring a number of major updates and refinements.

Firstly Windows Hello will be integrated into websites through Microsoft Edge, enabling users to log onto various services and accounts with face or biometrics.

Windows Ink will make the Surface Pen a lot smarter, enabling users to draw on maps and much more.

Cortana is coming to the Windows 10 homescreen, while it’ll also offer the ability to shut down Windows 10 devices.

Users will also be able to carry out complex tasks like ‘send that PowerPoint I worked on last night’ to a contact.

The update is free to all current Windows 10 users. We’d expect and official and permanent announcement from Microsoft soon.
