Nintendo’s Wii U console with its wireless GamePad controller launches in November. If the idea of streaming wirelessly with a control pad raises concerns over a slower response time, you probably need not worry.

Quoted in the October issue of Nintendo Power magazine, Ubisoft’s Michel Ancel (the developer behind Rayman Legends) said that the handheld device’s latency is “just 1/60 of a second” or roughly “one frame late.”

Even the most alert gamers may struggle to notice any difference with the new system.

Ancel was obviously impressed with the product. “It’s crazy, it’s so fast,” he said. “It’s almost instant. That’s why it responds so well. So it can be used as a real game-design thing.”

According to reports, Wii U should be able to stream content to the GamePad and its built-in colour screen over a distance of up to 24 feet (7.3 meters).

The HD-enabled console launches in the US on 18 November, Europe on 30 November and, strangely, Nintendo’s native Japan afterwards, on 8 December. UK prices start at about £248. It will debut with a choice of nine games in Europe, expanding to around 50 during the first few months.

The console’s pre-order allocation sold out in September, triggering a number of grey-market sellers to take advantage in the mean time at inflated prices.
