In a trend we are beginning to enjoy, Leadtek follows on from Gigabyte's 3D1 by releasing its own SLI-in-1 graphics card.
We like SLI. In principle two cards are better than one, but when two cards become one that is better again.
With the announcement of the WinFast Duo PX6600 GT Extreme (sounds like a boy racer car), Leadtek has jumped on the example set by Gigabyte‘s 3D1 last month by combining a pair of nVidia GeForce 6600GT GPUs onto a single card. Smeared on top of them is a healthy topping of 256MB DDR3 memory with a 550MHz core clock speed. Interestingly, unlike the 3D1, this baby will also work on any motherboard.
The obvious beauty of this system is it removes the need to upgrade, thus saving you money and the eternal hell that is reinstalling Windows.
In addition, Leadtek’s offering comes with HDTV-output which allows users to hook up their PCs to high definition TVs and naturally it supports all the latest technology standards such as DirectX 9.0c, Shader Model 3.0, nVidia’s UltraShadow II and the like. If noise is an issue then you’ll be glad to know the Duo PX6600 GT Extreme claims to keep levels under 30dB.
Inside the box you’ll find copies of Splinter Cell: Pandora Tomorrow and Prince of Persia: Warrior Within as well as video editing software Muvee AutoProducer.
No pricing details on this one yet (expect the usual update) but it should be hitting stores by the end of April. We have to say we liked the 3D1, so we expect to like the Duo PX6600 GT Extreme.
This trend for reducing SLI configurations onto a single card is great too, but what we can’t wait for is an SLI system with two linkable compressed SLI cards in them, essentially giving us four GPUs. Someone will do it, just you wait!
