WhatsApp video calls could be imminent

WhatsApp looks set to introduce a video call feature in the not-too-distant future.

With more than a billion users, WhatsApp continues to be one of the most popular messaging methods on the market. But the Facebook-owned service has even grander plans.

There have been rumours of a WhatsApp video call feature for some time now, but the company finally seems ready to go public.

The latest beta version of the WhatsApp Android app initially included a Video Call option, reports Fone Arena. Apparently, making a call through the app gave the user two options: one for audio calls, and one for video.

When it came to the video call feature itself, it didn’t appear to be active for most users. However, some are reporting that it actually works as advertised.

It seems as if this Video Call option was an unintentional inclusion on WhatsApp’s part, as it’s since been patched out. The leak offers a good indication that a video calling function is imminent, however.

When it finally arrives for real, expect a staggered roll-out for the new WhatsApp video call feature, just like with addition of the audio call feature last year.
